Integrated photonic transceivers at sub-terahertz wave range for ultra-wideband wireless communications

This project is supported by the European Commission under the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Theme of the 7th Framework Programme, within the Smart micro/nano systems area of ICT Challenge 3: Components, Systems, engineering.

Research Objectives

1) Design, Fabricate and Package a photonic E-band (71 - 76 GHz) wireless transmission system, composed of three different modules: a carrier wave signal generation module, a high speed photodiode for opto-electronic conversion and a Schottky diode receiver.

 

2) Design, Fabricate and Package a monolithic F-band wireless transmission system, integrating on the same chip lasers sources for dual wavelength generation, passive waveguide for optical couplers and connecting waveguides, electro-optical modulators for data encoding and high speed photodiode for electro-optical conversion

 

3) Demonstrate the performance of E-band developments on a system test set-up defined by the end user in the project.
